Thanksgiving is about sitting down to a good meal with people you care about. Not every valley family gets that each year, so we’re doing something about it.

On Friday, November 13, our kitchen is teaming up with The Joy Bus and Phoenix Suns center Duop Reath to hand out 100 Thanksgiving meals in North Phoenix. Same chefs who make your weekly meal prep, with a lot more gravy.

Event Details

The handout starts at 3:00 PM at The Joy Bus Diner, 10401 N. 32nd Street in Phoenix, right by 32nd Street and Shea. We’re bringing 100 pre-packaged Thanksgiving meals, and Duop will be there handing them out with us.

Spots are limited, so please sign up on Eventbrite ahead of time. It helps us know how many people are coming so nobody leaves empty handed.

Why The Joy Bus

If you don’t know about The Joy Bus, get ready to learn!
Chef Jennifer Caraway started it in 2011 for her friend Joy, who passed away from ovarian cancer. Today they deliver fresh, chef-made meals to homebound cancer patients across the Valley, free of charge.

Their diner on 32nd Street is 100% nonprofit, so every plate you order there helps pay for those deliveries. Last year they moved into a bigger space with a kitchen that can handle around 1,000 deliveries a week. A kitchen that cooks for people who really need it? We were in right away.

Meet Duop Reath

Duop signed with the Suns this September after starting center Mark Williams hurt his shoulder. He was born in South Sudan, plays for Australia’s national team, and has an Olympic bronze medal with them.

Phoenix is kind of a full-circle spot for him. He played Summer League here back in 2022, spent a few seasons in Portland, and now he’s back in purple and orange. We’re excited he’s spending an afternoon with our community.

Cooking for Phoenix Since 2015

Our kitchen sits just south of Sky Harbor, and we’ve been feeding the Valley since 2015. Through local charities and food banks, we’ve helped get more than 240,000 meals to Arizonans who need them. Our food scraps even go to local farms for compost.

The Thanksgiving meals come out of the same kitchen as our weekly meal prep menus, made by the same chefs with no preservatives. You can read more about our story here.

Run an office, gym, or wellness center? We also do recurring meal drop-offs for businesses and partners all over Phoenix. You can see more of our community work through the Scratch Wellness Coalition.
